ideas and possibilities outlined below are designed to help
members of the local community as they think about what
could happen on this site. Nothing is fixed and alternative
solutions may well emerge over
the coming
decade - it is for the local community to decide and enable
it to happen.Use the email button at the bottom right to
volunteer to help and also to send additional information
and ideas for specific sites 1. Visual
Attributes This
brownfield site on the north side of Manchester
Road opposite the Clock Tower is comprised of dense
shrubbery, scrub and tree planting. Species include
willow, cotoneaster and elder, with a ground layer
of mainly brambles and nettles. The site is
situated on a steep slope, which drops down from
the level of the pavement by Manchester road. It is
bounded to the south edge by a chestnut railing
fence (along the pavement), which has vegetation
growing through and over it, and steps that access
a track below the adjacent housing form the west
boundary. The other two edges of the site are
adjacent to Manchester Road brownfield site no.
2. The
impenetrable vegetation and dangerous topography
ensure that the site is not entered. Vegetation
spilling onto the pavement may become a safety
issue if allowed to grow without maintenance.
Activities
that the site supports at
present The
site does not support any human activity, although
it provides an undisturbed habitat for
wildlife. Trees
could be thinned to open up a view to the river.
Brambles could be cleared and replaced by less
aggressive ground cover plants, or a mix of
woodland ground flora. Ideas
for change
