ideas and possibilities outlined below are designed to help
members of the local community as they think about what
could happen on this site. Nothing is fixed and alternative
solutions may well emerge over
the coming
decade - it is for the local community to decide and enable
it to happen. 1. Visual
Attributes - update 2004 This
site consists of a small triangle of unkempt mown
amenity grass, edged by kerb stones, on the
junction where Broomfield Road meets Broomfield
Lane. A desire line runs along the south edge of
this triangle along Broomfield Lane, created by
pedestrians to avoid walking on the road. An
attractive mature sycamore grows at the centre of
the site and housing surrounds it on all sides. Safety The
site is adjacent to well-used roads in a quiet
residential area and is open with good sightlines.
Activities
that the site supports at
present The
site is used by pedestrians to walk across,
avoiding traffic on Broomfield Lane.
Activities
that could be supported in the
future The
mown grass could be replaced with less maintenance
intensive planting such as ground cover shrubs or
meadow, which would also increase the visual
quality of the space. The desire line could be
formalised, for example, by creating a narrow
gravel path. Ideas
