ideas and possibilities outlined below are designed to help
members of the local community as they think about what
could happen on this site. Nothing is fixed and alternative
solutions may well emerge over
the coming
decade - it is for the local community to decide and enable
it to happen. 1. Visual
Attributes - update 2004 These
playing fields are bounded by a dry stone wall to
the east and a mixed hedgerow to the north and
south sides of the site. The Pen Nook open space
site sits on the south edge, surrounded by housing.
The rear gardens of houses on St Margaret Avenue
back onto the northern boundary. An unmown margin
surrounds the amenity grass, providing
opportunities for wildlife. There is a set of goal
posts on the lower half of the large playing fields
and a sharp change in level marks another flat area
for sports above this. St. Johns Junior School is
situated on the northwest corner of the site and
backed by a hard surfaced playground. The Infants
School is located to the west of this. Trees
surround the entire site, providing a sense of
enclosure and a pleasant setting. This
site is open and partly overlooked by housing, so
it feels fairly safe to enter. Activities
that the site supports at
present Apart
from school sports activities, the site is
occasionally used for community events, such as
galas and sports games. People walk through the
site to access the Pen Nook housing located above
and dog walkers also pass through it. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Activities
that could be supported in the
future A
school garden (fruit, vegetables and flowers) could
be created on site for educational purposes. A
communal seating and picnic area could also be
established. The mown areas around the periphery of
the site could be widened, providing a habitat for
wildlife. Ecology
