Project
Title:
AMENITY
FACILITIES
CODE;
A4
Project
Summary:
The
aim is to provide facilities to improve visitor
comfort, safety and engender a maintained feel to
open spaces. These facilities to include;
lighting, bins, dog waste bins, fences, bollards,
footpath, benches etc. In the Manor and
Castle feasibility study video cameras were
suggested a number of times by local people. This
request was to be considered for key site/s or
parts of sites.
Project
Management
The
current existence of facilities has been noted in
the green audit. A register of facilities
could be set up to ensure systematic provision and
monitoring of facilities with respect to vandalism,
safety and wear and tear. Where problems
arise they should be addressed quickly to ensure
sites do not suffer from a spiral of
decline.

Economic
Implication
Funding
– Set-up Costs:
Cost
of installation, materials and equipment is
potentially high. Sponsorship from business
and individuals for benches, bins etc. is a
possibility.
Funding
– Running Costs:
Costs
associated with continual maintenance, restoration,
removal and re-installation.
Employment:
Local
contractors and workers to carry out

Tourism:

facilities give a looked after appearance and
improve safety and perceptions of
safety.
Social
Implications
Community
Involvement:
Community
should be consulted closely on siting of
facilities.
Community
could be given a phone line number to report any
damage.
Should
try to involve young people in this
work.

Local
Agenda 21:
Sustainable
local sources of materials should be
sought.
Wildlife:
Some
disruption and loss of habitat may result and
should be kept to a minimum by avoiding
ecologically sensitive areas.
Project
Viability
Constraints:
- Extra
advice required on siting of these
facilities.
- Litter
bins can fill-up quickly and overflow creating a
problem that did not exist before.
- High
set-up and maintenance costs.
- Target
for vandalism.
