Title:
PLANTING
FOR BUTTERFLIES
CODE;
L15
Project
Summary:
Selection
of small areas for seeding and planting with
species to encourage butterflies and their
larvae.
Project
Management
Site
can be any size and shape although sunny and not
too windy sites are more suitable. Soil should
generally be of low nutrient status and not too
wet. Butterflies use a variety of plants
depending upon species. However, rough
grassland and scrub, or woodland edge habitats with
species such as field scabious, red campion, cuckoo
flower, buddleja and lavender, would attract high
numbers of butterflies.
Signs
and interpretation panels should be added to
explain the value of such sites.
