Project Title LOCALLY PRODUCED ART
TRAIL Code T4 Project summary A trail could be constructed in
which locally produced or inspired art work would
be included to create an 'art trail'. Art work at
each site will have included a high level of
community participation. Project management A theme for the whole trail
could be chosen, or a few themes based around each
site/community. The trail would develop as art work
is carried out at different sites. Formulation of a
leaflet to describe the ideas of local people,
project and artists involved in art work. Way
markers for art work would be provided to form the
trail. Damaged or vandalised items should be
removed or replaced quickly. Project locations Large and small sites. Planning permission YES Project links Local projects could provide
materials, e.g. willow maze, wood from woodlands,
metal work from local companies. Parish maps and
the open space book could form elements of the
trail, or provide inspiration for ideas to be
developed. Economic
Implications Funding - set up
costs Artist willing to work with the
local community. Materials, installation, art
work. Funding: Arts Lottery, Yorkshire
and Humberside Arts, Sheffield City
Council. Funding - running
costs Some maintenance, cleaning and
replacement may be needed. Employment Local artists could be employed
where possible. Tourism Art work can act as a focal
point to sites, enhancing the interest and
appearance of an area. Social
Implications Community involvement Community consultation and
involvement in construction and location of art
work. This will help to foster ownership of the art
work. Schools involvement Excellent project for schools'
involvement through art and design
education. Recreational benefits Focal point of site or point of
interest. Environmental
Implications Local Agenda 21 Can act as a method of informing
people of the ideas and aims behind a
project. Wildlife Limited benefit, but the biofuel
maze, woodland products and sculptures will
encourage greater use of native species. Project
viability Constraints Local community may not consider
art a cost effective way to spend money.
