The Steel Valley Project - the potential to enhance the level of biodiversity in Stocksbridge

A preliminary assessment of the natural environment of Stocksbridge

Students from the Department of Landscape, University of Sheffield, undertook a preliminary assessment of the potential to enhance the biodiversity of the Stocksbridge area in the late 1990s. As relatively little has changed since then, this general overview is still a valid starting point for discussions about the need for more detailed information.

1. Relative levels of biodiversity
2. The land cover within the major open spaces
3. Sites of Local and Regional Scientific Interest
4. Main habitat types
5. A preliminary assessment of the potential to enhance biodiversity throughout the district
