Working out what we can do to make the area near the home a better place for young children

Young children play everywhere all the time. Much more play takes place outside play areas than in them. All the external spaces near the home need to be looked at as potential play spaces and all the objects (walls, gates, fences, changes in level etc.) as potential play features in the mind of a young child - so adults must use their imagination when involved in planning and designing for play. Any existing environment can be changed to become a better place if we recognise the opportunities of the site and the needs of the users and set about making effective changes.
